ANSWER:
cows can produce milk and not be pregnant as long as they had a calf at most about a year earlier. only some farmers treat cows like that, usually the ones that have a lot of cows will . alot of people still let cows become pregnant naturally, if not htey are impreginated by artificial insemination. in wisconsin some stuff in the article happens, but not to a huge degree. calves do get taken away and there are downer cows every so often. i think that things in that article are more common in California and other places.
