Answer:   Always stay in hostels. There are multiple advantages of staying in hostels. The most obvious advantage is that most of the hostels are very cheap, compared to hotels. However, the less obvious but more important advantage of staying in hostels lies in the fact that you get the chance to bond with other backpackers across the globe. I have stayed in rooms where every roommate was from a different continent, and we spent hours talking and learning about different cultures. Most of the hostels also organize events and games every night, adding to the fun.  Travel light. Believe me, life becomes crazily easier if you are travelling with just a backpack. You can then focus on enjoying the journey, instead of worrying about safe places to keep your luggage. I once went on a month long Eurotrip with just a small backpack, and it was one of the most convenient trips I had. I could stay wherever I wanted, and go wherever I wanted at a moment’s notice without any worry.  Don’t be afraid to experiment. Travelling exposes you to different cultures and food types. Don’t be afraid to experiment and go out of your comfort zone. You might stumble upon hidden passions you never knew you had. The first time I danced Salsa was in Europe, and I have been dancing ever since.  If you are backpacking across Europe over a long duration, buy a Eurail pass. Eurail passes are the most convenient and cheapest way to travel across multiple European countries. The train connectivity in Europe is great, and the Eurail passes also allow you to enjoy discounts in some of the hostels, restaurants, cruises or museums.  Don’t do typical touristy things. When I travel, I like experiencing the real culture of the country, instead of visiting the typical tourist traps like popular museums or landmarks. I prefer visiting the local places, hang out with the locals and also eat the local food.  Try to travel off-season. Wherever possible, try to travel off-season. You would be able to visit the same places at a lower price. The crowd would be significantly less, allowing you to enjoy the locations more, avoid queues and also capture better pictures. I visited Croatia during the winters a couple of years back, and found it much more convenient to experience the city without the usual crowd.  Be flexible with your schedule. Travelling solo allows you to be the master of your own schedule. If you enjoy a place more, stay longer. Allow yourself to get lost, without worrying about time. I was once crossing across Slovenia when I chanced upon the magnificent Lake Bled. I got down from the train then and there, and ended up spending significant time just strolling across the lake. It was an unplanned detour, but resulted in a lifelong memory.  Travelling solo is an amazing feeling. You can go wherever you want and do whatever you want. You can make friends all over the world, all while creating memories you will cherish forever.
