In a batch of 300 students, 73 are
members of the Sports Club, 220 are
members of the Music Club, and 70
students are in both clubs. How many
students are:
a. in either the Sports Club or Music
Club?
b. in neither of the clubs?

Students (U) = 300

Let, S = sports, M = music

n(S) = 73

n(M) = 220

n(S) ∩ n(M) = 70

To solve for the number of students who are into sports club only:

n(S) = 73

73 – 70 = 3

To solve for the number of students who are into music club only:

n(M) = 220

220-70 = 150

To solve for the number of students who are in neither of the clubs:

300-(30+70+150) = 77
